Showing off the talent throughout the West Coast and beyond, Terrace Martin’s newest album, Drones, serves as a modern all-star game for hip hop legends past and present. Through 13 tracks, the revered producer showcases his ability to craft together organic scores that showcase both the best of his abilities as a beatmaker, curator, and even a vocalist. From Snoop Dogg to YG, Martin encompasses an array of high-profile guests into this record that add more and more texture to his tracks with stunning performances. Out of all the songs on the lp, the self-titled track featuring Kendrick Lamar, Snoop, Ty Dolla $ign, and James Fauntleroy was a spectacle like no other through its bubbly atmosphere, which all the artists involved mesh together under the creative genius of Martin to convey. Going through the album’s 41 minute run time, Terrace Martin doesn’t just challenge his guests but brings out the best in rappers such as Cordae and Smino over his ambient and ever-changing scores. Whether its a rapper as high profile as D Smoke or Kendrick Lamar, a producer as talented as Hit-Boy or Robert Glasper, or a singer as gifted James Fauntleroy, Terrace Martin is able to encompass and bring the best out of all the egos involved in this record which is the defining trait of what makes Drones one of the best albums to come from the vision of a producer in years.
