French Montana’s A-list features and big-budget production make his newest album, They Got Amnesia, arguably his best through all the jokes and mockery. Over a lengthy tracklist that mixes French with everyone from John Legend to Pop Smoke, the CB leader actually uses the little talent he has to make an array of solid tracks. In a record that features everyone from Doja Cat to 42 Dugg, the atmosphere may be all over the place, but the pacing of this record isn’t as bad as you would think which can mainly be attributed to the surprisingly average performance from French. From his braggadocios opening verse to his heart-wrenching final monologue, Montana actually delivers some alright verses, and to hear him do more than just piggyback off the flame of his featured guests was a welcome surprise. Still, the ceiling for half-hearted, non-organic is only so high but to get at least a passable experience is a welcome delight. While on his own, French Montana makes this album barely listenable, the top-notch mainstream production and guest appearances from Rick Ross, Kodak Black, Fivio Foreign, and others make this record respectively mediocre.
