Fivio Foreign proves he is much more than your typical drill artist on his debut album, B.I.B.L.E. Through grand production, big-name features, and the Brooklyn rapper’s willingness to be great, Fivio solidifies his place within hip hop’s bright future. The entire album embodies Fivi’s traditional drill sound but goes above and beyond with it. There are moments that are angelic and introspective, like “On God,” while there is also room for hard-hitting anthems such as “Confidence” with A$AP Rocky. Having tracks that range in both style and emotional tone, the 32-year-old is able to show us just how versatile he is, which by mainstream standards is far above his contemporaries. For the anthems that possess more of a traditional drill sound, they are layered very well, utilizing everything from gospel music to classic RnB hits to make them sound brand new. While all of this artistic revolution is groundbreaking for drill, it doesn’t always pan out well, with a few cuts on the record just failing on a fundamental level. From Fivio’s writing to the drill elements not fusing with the other styles that are implemented, some of the songs here miss hard. Fortunately, these songs don’t plague the listening, which surprisingly contains little filler at 17 songs. Through this 51-minute experience, features like Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Quavo, Vory, and many others do a great job of immersing the record in the world Fivio is creating. Between the star power and the stylistic renaissance Fivio Forieggn creates for himself, B.I.B.L.E. feels like the drill equivalent to Kanye West’s Donda for all it encompasses within one coherent experience.
